I joined the band in in 2005 on Third-Triangle to play a couple of “pings” at the National Finals in Harrogate!
Early Years
I am not a percussionist by training (no funny comments please!) but from the age of 9 to 18 did something musical almost every day of my life. Before I left school I had 2 grade 8’s on piano and clarinet and was a member of the Birmingham School’s Wind Orchestra, my school windband, school orchestra and various choirs. I played at competitions, in the UK and overseas and even on TV!
Previous Bands
Through University and beyond, for about 20 years, I didn’t do much at all musically-maybe something to do with the student life at Leeds Uni, gaining an incredibly useful Zoology degree and then moving to London. The opportunity arose to get back in to music and join a parents’ choir at my daughter’s school- this re-ignited the “music bug” and when I was asked to play third triangle by Mike, I jumped at the chance!
So …..“Shrewton is my first band and it will be my last, Shewton of the future and Shrewton of the past!”
I cannot believe I have been hitting things with SSB for nearly 10 years!
Favourite Music
I like playing anything with a good (interesting) percussion part- especially good timp parts! (ie not just bass drum and cymbal!!)
Other Stuff…
  • The most different instruments played by me in a contest piece -13
  • I still have my clarinets which come out most Christmases for a quick squeak!
  • I am married to Brad (Eb bass) …..what is it about bass players and percussionists? ….. and we have our guard-cat Claude to keep us entertained.
  • I love Italy; going away in the caravan; a nice glass of wine;…. red, white, rose;… and Italian and Indian food.
  • I have worked for Hays, the leading global experts in professional and skilled recruitment, for over 25 years in all sorts of roles and locations.
  • I have been the Band Chairman for about 7 or 8 years and really appreciate the support received from the other committee members over the years, especially the band secretaries and Mike; and beyond the committee and players’ themselves, the Vice-Presidents who take such an active part in supporting the band in so many ways.
  • Band Highlights -winning the best percussion section in the Wessex contest, playing Paganini.
